Trillium names new chief of plastic surgery… sort of

Dr. Michael J. Weinberg has been named chief of plastic surgery for the Trillium Health Care Group. The appointment comes after Trillium Health Centre and Credit Valley Hospital merged to become Trillium Health Partners (THP).

Weinberg was Trillium Health Centre’s chief of plastic surgery from 2004 until the recent merger. He was selected and reinstated in the position for the new Mississauga health care organization after the THP board of directors required all department chiefs to reapply for their roles.

In a news release, Weinberg said the board’s decision to review the current chiefs due to the merger reflected the hospital’s commitment to excellence in patient care. “This process makes sure that we as collective healthcare providers are unified in our vision, mission, and values for the future of the hospital and the care of our patients,” he said.

Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Weinberg is a fellow of the Royal College and a member of numerous professional organizations, including the Canadian Medical Association and Canadian Society of Plastic Surgery.

He is also the director of the Mississauga Cosmetic Surgery and Laser Clinic on Queensway West as well as the Toronto Plastic Surgery Clinic.

In his newer, larger role at THP, Weinberg will perform, oversee, and teach plastic surgery procedures at the organization’s three locations.

“I’m glad to have been a part of the Trillium group over the past decade,” Weinberg said. “And that I get to be involved in the future of the hospital and the care of our patients.”

Before the announcement and merger, the chief of plastic surgery at the Credit Valley Hospital was Mississauga plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Conor B. Turley, who maintains a private practice on Credit Valley Road.
