A Mississauga technology and software company is cashing in on growth in digital medical records with a new sales partnership with Burlington medical device maker ABELMed Inc.
TracMed said Friday its deal with ABELMed makes it the preferred sales, training and implementation partner for the Burlington company’s new electronic medical record system — called “ABEL-in-a-Box.”
The system, geared towards physicians and clinics, involves a monthly fee, no upfront costs and is designed to be in place in a week.
“With the right system and the right team to provide ongoing 24/7 support to the physicians, electronic medical records can make life much easier and more efficient for physicians, patients and the broader healthcare system,” said Guna Deivendran, CEO of the Admiral Blvd.-based company.
“We recognize the importance of helping clinics make the switch with minimal disruption to their operations and have a strong team to help physicians transition their practices to EMR seamlessly and efficiently.”
ABEL-in-a-Box is made up of EMR software, hardware and services that allow doctors and medical clinics to rapidly implement an electronic medical record system, “at straightforward pricing and cost certainty,” said Arun Rele, president and CEO of ABELMed.
“This quick-to-implement package increases practice efficiency, helps improve patient care and saves time for physicians,” he added.
“ABELMed and TracMed have developed an attractive payment mechanism with one single monthly fee and no upfront payments. All physicians and clinics in Ontario can take advantage of this opportunity, whether they are applying for funding or not. ”
The move follows an industry trend of innovative collaborations with private companies geared towards cutting costs for health-care operators.
And that could open up new business opportunities, said a senior executive with Telus Health, a major operator of EMR systems in Ontario and Quebec.
“We feel that the market is looking for really integrated solutions,” Telus Health’s chief clinical advisor, Nicolas Zamora told the recent TechNext conference organized by the Research Innovation and Commercialization Centre.
Zamora said it was his job to find “pockets of innovation” and connect them to patients through collaborations with organizations like Mississauga-based Trillium Health Partners.
TracMed manages IT for physicians and clinics, including the installation and implementation of EMR. In addition, the company specializes in health IT consulting, health IT personnel placement and custom software development.
