Chemi Pharmaceutical clients visiting lab following licence suspension

Clients of troubled Mississauga lab company Chemi Pharmaceutical have been reviewing procedures after Health Canada suspended its licence last week due to falsified test results.

Company president Mariana Stavrikov told that she was busy Friday touring clients through the Bonhill Road facility.

The company has already lost two other clients, Bimeda-MTC Animal Health and Mississauga drug firm Septa Pharmaceutical Inc, as a result of a Health Canada investigation that found the company had falsified test results.

Following the licence suspension, Stavrikov said that Chemi has made a number of staffing changes, including firing the employee responsible for falsified tests and hiring a consultant from Mississauga regulatory company Quality & Compliance Services Inc.

Stavrikov also said Chemi is looking for a quality assurance manager, more auditors and test reviewers.

According to Health Canada, there still eight products and three companies on the hold sale list that may require futher testing, including Jarvis Street Pharma’s Gaviscon Liquid and Gaviscon Heartburn Relief.
