Morguard appoints Vikash Jain as VP and chief investment officer

Mississauga real estate and investment company Morguard Corp. (TSX:MRC) has appointed veteran money manager Vikash Jain as the new chief investment officer of its fund management division.

Jain has 15 years of experience with global portfolio strategy, design and management, including several years of experience in Mumbai and Singapore as an oil and industrial sector analyst.

He will succeed Charles Dillingham, current chief investment officer at Morguard Financial, on Dec. 31.

In his new role, Jain will oversee Morguard Financial’s stock and bond investments, including the company’s Sunstone Real Estate Income Fund and the Real Estate Equity Fund.

Morguard has more than $12 billion of assets owned and under management across North America. The company also owns nearly 43 per cent of Morguard REIT, a property trust which owns 53 retail, office and mixed-use properties in Canada.

Jain worked at Bellwether Investment Management Inc. and before that spent six years with Northwater Capital, where he managed $5 billion in investments and hedge funds with he institutional money firm.

He started his career as a business journalist with Dow Jones News writing about the Indian financial markets and the heavy industry sector, with a special focus on energy. Jain lives in west-end Toronto and graduated from the University of Toronto in 1991 and completed his Masters in Finance at the National University of Singapore in 2001.
